Winter Solstice: The Longest Night Brings the Return of the Light

Posted on December 19, 2022

We’ve been through a lot these past three years – and now we enter a season of very cold and bleak months to deal with once again. That’s probably why we have so many celebrations at this time of year – to get us through!

But this is also the season when we’re meant to slow down and get quiet. To rest, recharge and reconnect with our own soul’s essence. To dream the dream that incubates within us. To sink into its power and beauty and repose in it. To deeply relax and restore ourselves.

Winter Solstice is one of my favorite holidays. I love that the darkest night brings with it the return of the light. I love the resounding silence that blankets the land when the snow falls, laying a blanket of special stillness that protects all the new life incubating within Mother Earth. I love that stillness. And I love the natural urge to get quiet. To go within. To seek peace.

This period of still, dark quiet lends itself to contemplating the big questions. When even the daytime is dark, we can experience a dark night of the soul. We can lose touch with the light that glows within us. But it is always shining. It never goes out. It can get dimmed . . . but it never goes out. So, just when things are feeling so dark and dismal, it is a perfect time to ask: “Show me my light. What keeps it intrinsically shining through the dark? How can I stay connected to it? Show me my light!

Your light will flicker brighter, like a candle, and illuminate your inner wisdom. It will shine on your awareness. You will gain insight into the things you do instinctively to stay connected to your light. Your light is a blessing to the world. So let it shine! Afterall, ‘tis the season!

Won’t you come join us for a guided Journey to connect with your essential light this Solstice!

We’ll meet in the Skylight Room at Heartwood

The immense enthusiasm I have for understanding and practicing this beautiful hand-healing art of Shiatsu has stayed with me since I began studying in 1975. My Japanese teachers could not speak English well, so they were diligent in imparting the feeling of the work. It is the feeling of deeply understanding and caring for your client; of wishing the best for them; and doing your best for them. Next comes the skillful precision of your technique. And, finally, the knowledge and understanding of the theoretical base is necessary.

I took this to heart and, after extensive study and apprenticeships, became a world-known expert and teacher of Shiatsu. I am still SO in love with this work! I believe people find it easier to be happy when they can move freely without pain. My purpose is to help reduce or eradicate their pain – and the personal suffering that makes it worse.
