Discover Aikido this Summer at Lakeshore Aikido Club in the heart of Evanston
Are you looking for an activity that will help you reduce stress, improve balance, build confidence, and become part of a welcoming community? This summer, Lakeshore Aikido Club invites adults and teens (16+) to join our Six-Week Beginner Aikido Program in the heart of Evanston. Classes will met every Monday and Thursday 6-7PM.
Aikido is a modern Japanese martial art that teaches non-violent self-defense. Rather than relying on strength or aggression, Aikido teaches you how to remain calm, move efficiently, and peacefully redirect an opponent’s energy. The goal is not to fight or overpower others, but to develop awareness, composure, and harmony in challenging situations.
Our beginner program is designed for everyone, regardless of age, fitness level, or previous martial arts experience. Through regular practice, you will improve your posture, flexibility, coordination, and overall physical well-being. You will also learn practical self-defense skills, mindfulness techniques, and methods for managing stress in everyday life.
Unlike competitive sports, Aikido has no tournaments and no winners or losers. Students train cooperatively in a supportive environment where mutual respect and encouragement are at the center of every class.
Throughout the six weeks, you will learn safe falling and rolling, body conditioning exercises, movement principles, silent meditation, and fundamental Aikido techniques.
More than a martial art, Aikido is a lifelong practice that nurtures both body and mind.
Come discover Evanston’s community for mindful movement, non-violent self-defense, and healthy aging.
No previous experience is necessary.
Join us this summer and begin a journey toward a stronger body, a calmer mind, and a deeper sense of connection with yourself and others.
An Aikido uniform (gi) is not required for this introductory program, although it is strongly recommended. Information on how to purchase a uniform will be provided. Participants who already own a martial arts uniform (judo, karate, ju-jutsu) are welcome to wear it.
Enrollment is Limited
To ensure personalized instruction and maintain a supportive learning environment, class size is intentionally kept small. We encourage early registration, as spaces will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis.
