Chakra regulation is an important skill my clients encounter at the beginning of our work together. The purpose of learning chakra regulation is to maximize autonomy while ensuring an appropriate flow of energy into and out of the chakra.
Clients share they are often encouraged to open all of their chakras to 100%, and frequently report feelings of vulnerability, agitation and that they’re absorbing too much of what’s ‘out there’, without being able to hold onto what’s ‘in here’.
I reassure them that there is no reason to set the chakras to 100% open. Containment is far more important, and in fact, a precious asset to cultivate!
When a chakra is too open, it vacuums in other people’s energy, and because of the concept of resonance, it tends to vacuum in emotional energy that mirrors your own. So if you tend towards anxiety, you’ll vacuum it in from other people!
Conversely, if a chakra is too closed, energy won’t flow freely, and it can impact important resources such as grounding, and the ability to complete tasks effectively.
A piano, when tuned, plays beautifully and creates harmonious music. Similarly, when chakras are balanced and attuned, energy flows harmoniously. If energy is flowing harmoniously, life is likely to follow suit.
The most common chakra that is excessively open is the second chakra; the seat of the emotions. This is where emotional overload, flooding or porosity occurs. When people speak of energetic sensitivity, they nearly always have an excessively open second chakra, and it’s operating as a vacuum with other people’s emotional energy.
Learning to regulate the second chakra has supported hundreds of people to retain their awareness and sensitivity without the corresponding overwhelm and calls to withdraw and isolate to recover and regroup.
Clients also share that they’ve been taught to set their heart chakra to 100% open, with the idea that this facilitates a loving and compassionate state of being.
While compassion and love are wonderful attributes to bring forth into the world, having a heart chakra open to 100% often results in feeling overwhelmed by the pain and sorrow in the world, often named as compassion fatigue.
Regulating the heart chakra facilitates a compassionate heart in balance and alignment with the entire chakra system; in harmony, much like the beautifully tuned piano.
What about a chakra that’s too closed?
Sometimes people have their feet chakras tightly closed. This often occurs with feelings of overwhelm and stress, or in the midst of an intense experience.
Closed feet chakras restrict the release of energy into the Earth, while also preventing energy replenishment. Steadily regulating this chakra, helps you feel anchored into and supported by the Earth, and gives you an organic release valve for overwhelming or stressful emotions.
Chakra regulation is an important step in containing and maintaining your energy field. With committed, consistent care, your energy body can flow and function optimally, creating a balanced and harmonious lived experience.
