Everyone is Psychic: Journeying Can Bring It Out

Did you know that the subconscious mind is aware of everything that we encounter and express on the subtlest of levels? We rarely work with our subconscious mind because we don’t believe we can control it. And that means we often don’t notice what it perceives. But, all psychic impressions are managed by it. So . . .

It’s nice to know we can learn to notice more of those subconscious impressions – and how to translate them to the conscious mind.

One fact that may make it easier for you to trust that you actually can begin to make the subconscious conscious, is that psychic perception is typically considered to be a higher octave of our physical senses.

  • Sight becomes clairvoyance. It lays the ground for spiritual vision, dreams, imagination and auric sight.
  • Hearing becomes clairaudience. It lays the ground for hearing spirit voices, music, telepathy, and comprehending spiritual laws.
  • Touch becomes clairsentience. It lays the ground for psychometry (the ability to gain information about an object or person by touching it) and healing.
  • Smell and taste become clairaroma and clairgustus. They lay the groundwork for idealism, discrimination, spiritual discernment, and higher imagination. [These two are often lumped together because they are dependent on each other. We often don’t taste food unless we also smell it. It’s common that one word, clairgustus, is used for both.]

And there are two other senses we could add to these five: common sense and intuitive sense.

Common sense is simply the heightened integration of what we experience with our traditional five senses. When we develop our sensitivity to a higher level, our awareness opens to what our senses have picked up. We begin to see the patterns of our life more clearly. That then leads to the intuitive sense that helps us recognize where those patterns are likely to lead.

So, we could say that psychic intuition is a combination of experience, observation and openness, together with trusting what we perceive with our subconscious mind.

For most of us, one sense is stronger than the others. But don’t worry; developing your strongest sense naturally develops the others, as well. You may see something, hear something, or, in some other way, sense something that you don’t understand. Whether or not those impressions are actual or symbolic, they are real. So, why not start believing what you know?! 😁 If you do, you will automatically level up your abilities to tune in.

For instance:

  • If you tend toward clairvoyance, the impressions often come as symbols because symbology is the language of the subconscious mind.
  • If you tend more toward clairaudience, you may hear ringing, buzzing, bells, or even words, sentences or entire messages as if you are hearing them inside your own head. Or, they may sound like someone else talking to you.
  • Clairaroma may bring you a message that is related to a particular smell. For instance, if someone smells like eucalyptus, and you know about the calming effects of eucalyptus, you might figure out that the person is stressed.
  • In the case of clairgustus, you might taste saccharin every time you are around your uncle who has diabetes.

These are only a few of the possibilities for how your senses might work for you. Each individual has their own way of interpretation.

GETTING BACK TO THE SUBCONSCIOUS MIND

So, do we have the power to engage our subconscious mind and influence it to any degree? Many people doubt that we do. Feelings of uncertainty or self-doubt may be part of the reason, but it’s also because two of the best practices for gaining access to what the subconscious mind perceives are meditation and visualization. The combination of these two is known as Journeying.

Journeying teaches us how to shift the conscious mind to deeper, more subconscious levels of perception and understanding. But we almost always come up against resistance when we try these activities. Resistance most commonly shows up as wandering thoughts. It’s easy to become disheartened because we think it should be simple. Well, it is  simple. It’s just not easy.

But, please . . . don’t get discouraged. All you need is focus and concentration. You acquire skillfulness with focus and concentration the same way you acquire any skill – with practice, repetition and stick-to-it-iveness. Patience isn’t absolutely necessary, but it really helps!

I found that Native American Cherokee meditation is really great for people whose minds are too busy and won’t “shut up” –  because it doesn’t ask you to quiet your mind. Instead, it asks you to use your mind in a way that leads to deep peace and inner knowing. This traditional type of meditation connects you with Mother Earth and Father Sky as the parents whose purpose it is to nurture the full power of your life force. Their DNA runs through your DNA. When you experience yourself as the child of these two good and powerful beings, you automatically begin opening to a greater conscious awareness of who you truly are and what is possible – a ”psychic” awareness.

We are, indeed, supported by all of creation. That support is there for all of us, all the time. I have personally experienced it. I have trust in it. And, if you so desire, I would be delighted to put you in touch with it!
