SUMMARY:Energy into Matter: An Art Exhibit with Guy Whitney
DESCRIPTION:Guy Whitney exhibits art works reflecting inquiry into the nature of spirit\, energy and the ways they manifest in matter. Join us at Heartwood Center’s Skylight room for the opening of Whitney’s show\, “Energy Into Matter\,” on October 8\, 2021\, from 6:00 to 8:30 PM New watercolor works on paper explore realms of mystery and perception of our world in the context of art.  \nUsing a variety of techniques from frottage to dripped wax\, Whitney is said to convey states of emotional and spiritual inquiry into the human condition. Ideas around clarity and recognition are called into manifestation in contexts ranging from Buddhism\, animism\, Taoism and non-western metaphysics. Images of spheres and figures exist in various regions of space. Whitney says these {states} are metaphors of human experience\, growth and comprehension. “The work is in part a reflection of how we experience today’s social and political divides that sadly separate us from the truth and depth of our shared human connections\,” said Whitney. \nBorn in Paris to a lineage of French artists\, Whitney’s artistic development began at the School of the Art Institute Chicago where he received a BFA\, studying primarily with the renown painter Emilio Cruz. Following this he co-founded the artist-run N.A.M.E. gallery and served on its board for ten years\, overseeing exhibitions and the gallery’s expansion into a venues for performance art\, film and live jazz events.  \nAfter an extended period\, which included the inadvertent release of his art making practice\, Whitney reconnected with his skill\, craft and creativity. This exhibition represents the mature arrival of this reconnection. Whitney has acknowledged that he is\, in fact\, a “late bloomer.”  \nThe exhibition\, which includes works from 16” x 20″ to 42” x 50”\, is on view from October 8 through December 31\, 2021 at Heartwood Center for Body Mind and Spirit\, 1818 Dempster St\, in Evanston\, Illinois. \nContact: Guy Whitney  \nTelephone: (773) 915-3174                   \nEmail:  esprit1@mindspring.com      \n

SUMMARY:Sunday Sangha
DESCRIPTION:Sunday Sangha led by Meditation Program Director\, Nancy Floy\n10:00am – 12:00pm (via Zoom until early May 2026) \nNancy will lead us in a few simple Buddhist chants and a guided meditation. Following meditation\, we will return to our new text\, Interbeing: Fourteen Guidelines for Engaged Buddhism by Thich Nhat Hanh. “Socially-engaged Buddhism” has become something of a buzzword in among many sanghas\, but what exactly does it mean? More importantly\, how do we practice it? Thich Nhat Hanh\, a Vietnamese Zen Buddhist monk\, created these practices to help people develop the insight of the interconnected nature of reality and the human experience\, which could then lead to a collective awakening. \nContact Larry Akey\, (Lakey0752@gmail.com) for key code to enter building or further information.

SUMMARY:Spanish Speaking Meditation Class
DESCRIPTION:Please note: This series has ended\, and a new series will begin in January.\nMeditación individual y en silencio\, todos los niveles de meditadores estarán bienvenidos. Simplemente vuelve a tu respiración.
