HEARTWOOD FOUNDATION
WOMEN AND CANCER PROGRAM
Heartwood Foundation Providing Free Holistic Healthcare
for Women in Need
Heartwood Foundation is proud to announce the expansion of our Women and Cancer Program which began in 2004. Heartwood is dedicated to making what the center has to offer — exceptional holistic healthcare — available to people of all financial means.
Holistic healthcare treatments benefit both the mental and physical health of women living with cancer at any stage in progression. The program's goal is to treat women who need services beyond the realm of traditional western medicine, yet cannot afford them.
The program is funded in part by the State of Illinois Department of Public Health with the driving support of State Senator Carol Ronen, as well as by the "Whole Hearts" program (in partnership with Whole Foods Market North), the Women’s Club of Evanston’s 2007/2008 Giving Focus Grant and private contributions. With this funding, Heartwood is able to provide services at no cost to women living with cancer who may be experiencing financial difficulties. We are also grateful to our partnership with the Rogers Park Community Counci which provided support in the first years of the program.
Working with Program Director Terri Clemens, participants will assess their own needs and be matched with appropriate services. Heartwood has many skilled practitioners offering healing services such as psychotherapy, acupuncture, and body work. Gifted teachers at Heartwood offer classes in T'ai Chi, Nia, meditation and yoga.
