TAMING THE MIND II
LOPÖN HELEN BERLINER

SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 20 to SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 21, 2016
9:30 AM – 5:30 PM

Taming the mind is about taking one’s own mind as the basis of dharma and the dawning of wisdom. In practice, this means resting in the ground of awareness, not swept away by the powerful habits of mind that cause us to suffer. In the practice of shamatha meditation, we glimpse true freedom from the tumultuous crosscurrents of thoughts, feelings, and sense perceptions that hinder mind’s resting in one-pointedness and evenness. To meet the challenges to resting the mind, we need the support and protection of what are traditionally called the “twelve preliminaries” to shamatha meditation: the four reminders, the four inner preliminaries, and four pillars. This weekend is an opportunity to contemplate the twelve preliminaries in the context of the practice of meditation.

Based on Mindrolling Jetsün Khandro Rinpoche’s 2014 teachings on taming the mind, this program is open to all – whether or not you attended Taming the Mind I, and will include meditation instruction and contemplative exercises.

Lopön Helen Berliner studied with Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche for 17 years and has been a student of Mindrolling Jetsün Khandro Rinpoche since 1994. She has degrees in fine arts and psychology, a master’s in Buddhist Studies specializing in environmental psychology. She is the author of Enlightened By Design and editor of many dharma books.
