Tibetan prayer flags

You're Invited!

Come Celebrate with Us
Friday, June 13
6:00 to 9:00 pm
Heartwood Center
1599 Maple Ave., Evanston

Please join us to celebrate the official opening of our wonderful Tibetan photography exihibit generously curated by Laura Dorfman and Asang. Stop by to enjoy the photos along with wine, beer and Tibetan foods like the traditional "momo" (a dumpling). We'll have music from Tibet and there will be dancing!

The show has been a benefit for the Heartwood Tibet Girls School which will be up and running this fall thanks to donations of $2,500 towards the $6,000 goal. Thanks to everyone for your support. We hope that you will be able to stop by the party on the 13th. Feel free to pass along this invitation or bring a friend. The more, the merrier!

Many blessings,
Nancy Floy, Heartwood Executive Director

PS: This event is free and open to the public; rsvp's are not necessary.

Heartwood's Women and Cancer Program Receives Largest Contributions to Date

Heartwood is delighted to report that we have received a private donation of $5,000, our largest contribution to date. The money came from the estate of Barbara Brown, a participant in our program who passed away a year ago and designated money in her will for this program.

We then learned that we received a grant from the Women's Club of Evanston for $5,000. We will be able to use this money — as well as the money from Barbara Brown — to extend our program past the June 30th deadline of the state grant. And we will be able to expand the scope of the program, giving more treatments and providing care for more women!

Heartwood is so grateful for these generous gifts. If you or your organization is interested in contributing, contact Nancy Floy at 847.491.1122 x11. Any size donation is welcome. Read more...

Heartwood Featured on Evanston TV Show

Heartwood's Nancy Floy and Terri Clemens appeared on the community television program "Evanston 30" in March where they talked about the Women and Cancer Program. Jaqi Boyer of Wild Tree Cafe joined the discussion with information about their Food From the Heart initiative that provides organic groceries to women with cancer living in Chicagoland. Nancy also announced their new not-for-profit program, the Heartwood Tibet Girls School.

UPDATE: Nancy Floy and Asang will be joining the "Evanston 30" show again in April to talk more about the situation in Tibet and how to help. Click here for the Evanston Community Media Center schedule.

Evanston Residents, Health Center Helping Tibetan Girls

Expanding our mission to promote women's health, Heartwood Center is creating a school for Tibetan girls. The vocational boarding school for girls ages 14 to 20 will help Nomad yak herding families provide more opportunities for the next generation. As our own "Three Cups of Tea" project, we are raising $6,000 per year to cover room, food, clothing and education for ten girls in the city of Yushu.
