Heartwood's Ribbon Cutting Ceremony
October 25, 2010
Congratulations AND many thanks to everyone who came out to be a part of our Ribbon Cutting Ceremony. In addition to the support of our local leaders, we were joined by members of the business community, our neighbors, phenomenal vendors and supportive friends. Heartwood Center is your local healing place and we couldn't be more delighted to officially open our doors to everyone!

Evanston Mayor Elizabeth Tisdahl presides at the ribbon
cutting ceremony to officially open the doors of Heartwood Center
at its new location, 1818 Dempster Street. 2nd Ward Alderman
Lionel Jean-Baptiste and owners Asang and Nancy Floy assist
with the festivities.

Our event included remarks from Mayor Tisdahl, as well as
thank you's from Terri Clemens (far right, COO of Heartwood
Center) and Lou Dickson (second from the right; general
contractor and Executive Director of the Evanston
Rebuilding Warehouse).

The heart and soul of the rebuilding project, Roberto (far right)
and Victor (second from the left) became part of the
Heartwood family with their amazing workmanship and
tireless support.

DIck Peach of Dempster Auto Rebuilders and active member of
the area's growing business community stopped by to
welcome Nancy, Asang and the Heartwood community
to the neighborhood.

Heartwood's beautiful garden is due in part to Pearl May (far right)
and Dan (second from right) at Greenwise, a local organic lawn
care
company who helped plan and plant the new green space.

Julie Scher Nebel (psychotherapy), Erich Morraine (personal
growth trainer),
Alison Oakes (psychotherapy) and Sarah
McLaughlin (massage)
were
just a few of the Heartwood
practitioners on hand to provide
tours of the center
and talk about their work.

Dickelle Fonda learns more about Charlotte Christian (acupuncture)
in her treatment space. Every
practitioner at Heartwood is
self-employed; that's more than
40 independent businesses
that operate within the center.

Alderman Jean-Baptiste, Dickelle Fonda of the
Dewey-Darrow Neighborhood Association,
State Representative Robyn Gabel, and Nancy Floy
welcome everyone through the doors
of Heartwood Center.

First Bank & Trust of Evanston came through not
only with funding for the purchase and
remodeling of this building, but also with
expert guidance and support at every turn.
Our thanks especially to Joan Kelly (right, Vice
President of Commercial Banking), Daniel Burke
(second
from right, Vice President of Commercial
Banking-Home Equity Lending) and Owen E.
Beacom (not shown, Managing Director and CLO).

One of the most dramatic aspects of the
remodeling project was the new facade,
due in part to the grant from the City of
Evanston. Bricklayers Tony Tortorella (second
from the right) and
John (far left) from
North Shore Brick
did the amazing
brickwork
installation.

The City of Evanston staff were extremely helpful
in guiding us through the permits and grant
process.
Sarah Flax (left, City of Evanston,
CDBG Grants Administrator), Nancy, Asang and
Annette Logan (City of Evanston, Economic
Development Planner).

Sarah McLaughlin (massage), Mark Repplinger
(Hakomi) and Louise Rosenberg (massage)
show off their treatment room.

We absolutely owe the success of this project to
the many talented local businesses including
Carrie Ramirez (middle) from Harmon Windows
for
all their hard work, talent and dedication.
